Residents of Igboho in Oyo State erupted in celebration after a family reportedly abducted by kidnappers regained their freedom following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Videos circulating on social media captured scenes of jubilation as residents sang, danced and welcomed back the victims, who were said to include a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling.

The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity and kidnapping in parts of Oyo State. Earlier, Sunday Igboho had publicly expressed anger over the alleged abduction of the family and other reported cases of kidnapping within the community.

In a viral video, Igboho was seen addressing traditional rulers, community leaders and representatives, where he condemned what he described as repeated incidents of kidnapping and violence affecting residents of the area.

According to him, some of the incidents involved ransom payments that allegedly ended in tragedy, prompting his decision to intervene. He subsequently issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding the release of the abducted victims.

“I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” he declared during the meeting.

He further warned that failure to secure the victims’ release within the stipulated time could lead to further actions against those suspected of being connected to the kidnappings.

Shortly after the ultimatum, videos emerged showing excited residents celebrating what was reported as the safe return of the abducted family. However, the exact circumstances surrounding their release have not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

The incident has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the role of community-based interventions in addressing insecurity and protecting lives in vulnerable communities.
