The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticism over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, insisting that the president has fulfilled his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief by directing the military.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23, Adeboye said those blaming President Tinubu for the country’s security challenges were being unfair.

According to the revered cleric, once a commander-in-chief gives directives to the armed forces, he has performed his constitutional duty and should not be expected to personally lead military operations.

“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” Adeboye said.

To further explain his position, Adeboye compared Tinubu’s role to that of U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that world leaders issue military directives while security agencies carry out the operations.

Despite defending the president, Adeboye admitted that Nigeria’s security situation has become increasingly alarming. He lamented that terrorism, kidnapping, and violent attacks, once concentrated in the North, have now spread to the southern part of the country.

He also alleged that those sponsoring insecurity are known but continue to move about freely without being brought to justice.

The RCCG leader further disclosed that he has personally discussed Nigeria’s security challenges with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the church.

Adeboye’s comments have sparked fresh debate among Nigerians, with many divided over whether the president has done enough to address the country’s persistent security challenges.
