Shock In Kwara As OPC Leader, Two Others Abducted While Delivering ₦30 Million Ransom To Kidnappers

A shocking twist has emerged in Kwara State after a top member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, was reportedly kidnapped alongside two other individuals while attempting to secure the release of an earlier kidnap victim.

The incident occurred in Oko-Irese, located in Irepodun Local Government Area, where the three-man team was said to be carrying a huge ransom package demanded by suspected kidnappers.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the group was transporting approximately ₦30 million in cash, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice as part of negotiations for the freedom of a victim who had previously been abducted in the community.

However, the rescue mission reportedly turned into a nightmare after armed men intercepted the team and whisked them away.

Information gathered suggests the kidnappers instructed the ransom bearers to follow a route leading into a forest area around the Kwara-Kogi boundary. It was there that the OPC chieftain, his driver, and another associate were allegedly captured.

In a disturbing development, sources claimed that the original kidnap victim may have already been killed before the ransom team arrived—an information that was reportedly unknown to those sent on the mission.

Residents have also been discussing reports that Fabiyi received warnings against embarking on the journey. Despite the alleged caution, he proceeded with the trip, which ultimately ended in tragedy.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the growing insecurity in parts of Kwara State and the dangers faced by families and negotiators dealing with kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command says it had not received any official report regarding the alleged abduction at the time inquiries were made. The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, stated that an investigation would commence once a formal complaint is lodged.

As uncertainty surrounds the fate of the abducted OPC leader and his companions, many residents are calling for urgent action to tackle the rising threat of kidnapping across the region.
